Whether you like it or not, 19-year-old Alana Blanchard, with her waterdrop frame, seductive eyes, and seamless carve is the new face of women’s surfing. Young, beautiful, and talented, when a photo of Alana appears in a glossy monthly, whether she be clad in bikini or draped in neoprene, you know it’s going to be a page-stopper. At a time when the women’s tour is undoubtedly on shakey footing, having someone like Alana at the helm that not only surfs supreme but has garnered international media coverage (Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair) only helps ensure the sport’s survival. Recently, we caught up with Alana to get her impression on her first year on the CT and how she handles all of the … err … attention.

Meet the new female stars of surfing
Photograph by Michael Halsband
Fifty years after Gidget stirred up waves in the male-dominated surfing world, a new set of young women in their teens and 20s are revolutionizing the sport, from the beaches of Montauk to Australia. The best will be stoked to flaunt their tailslides and aerial maneuvers at this month’s U.S. Open of Surfing, in Huntington Beach, California—the Kentucky Derby of the ocean.
And these aren’t just beach bunnies paddling to “California Girls.” “It’s all about sharing waves,” says former world champ Sofia Mulanovich, 26, of Peru, in characteristic surfer parlance. “One of the best girl surfers could probably beat 80 percent of the men.” Which raises the question: How will the dudes impress them when they’re left behind, getting crushed inside the set?

The Hotest Surfer on Earth
Alana Blanchard is the hotest surfer on the planet. For the past few years, as creepy as it may sound, she has captivated the thoughts and imagination of surf fans around the globe. Female surf fans respect her hard-charging, progressive shredding, and beautiful style. Male surf fans applaud all the surf-centric abilities Alana possesses – but while admiring her shred-attack, we guys can’t help but marvel at her sheer hotness! She has a Lolita-like, come-hither stare combined with a body tuned like a pristine exotic racecar – Alana is the complete package of talent and beauty.
She sounds like the perfect girl, right? Don’t forget, she has a group of protective older brothers from a little club called “The Wolfpack”, she’ll charge Pipeline while you whinge on the beach, and she’ll never be home – after all, she’s just qualified for her first year on the World Tour, so good luck keeping up with her. see rest of the article…

Alana Blanchard has always known she was going to be a pro surfer. It’s been in her blood ever since her first competition at 6-years-old. It probably helps that she grew up on Kauai with a family of surfers from Mom and Dad to brothers, but still, she could have decided to just be a beach blanket blond. But that wasn’t the route she chose and now at 18-years-old she’s the face of Rip Curl, travels the world both modeling and competing and can’t imagine any other life then the one she’s been living since she was a grom. This month surfing’s latest Hawaiian darling is being touted as the as the “hottest surfer in the world” by TW Surf, and their claiming it’s not just for her smoking looks. Either way we don’t care. We like her and think she’s got it going on so FUEL.TV caught up with the watergirl while on a breather at home to find out a little more about this chick who is making waves in the surfing media and in mags like Vanity Fair. –Shanti Sosienski
Interview with Alana…
FUEL.TV: What kind of surfer did Kauai make you?
Alana Blanchard: That’s a hard question. I guess they say that living here gives you a real advantage to different kinds of waves. We have everything from mushy and hollow to big, so you get comfortable in all types of surf. Probably because we are surrounded by ocean, it’s all we know growing up. Read the rest of the interview…
